I wanted to thank everyone who has been bothering to read my blog. I feel like I am finally getting the hang of it and hope to be more prolific in 2011. I thought I would share with you the statistics from 2010 (see below) The most popular blog post from 2010 was apparently, crying in the car over a bad hair cut struck a cord with many! Here’s to better hair in 2011!!
To start the year off right, my husband and I were part of a lovely progressive party with several of our neighbors. Each of the 5 houses had to provide a unique appetizer and a cocktail. This is a wonderful bunch of people and I feel honored to have been able to ring in the new year with them – sort of. Let me explain. I woke up on December 31st with a nasty head cold, coupled with double pink eye. I kid you not! Even the kids didn’t have pinkeye. WTF? I was miserable. My husband took this as some sort of evil plot on my part to get out of going to or hosting our part of the party. Trust me, I would have faked something much less hideous if I simply wanted to get out of going somewhere – LOL! Anyway, since we had put so much time, money and effort into this party already, we decided to move forward with it on one condition: He did all the coooking. I figured it was the only way it would work. Besides, who would want to go to a party and the host says “Appetizer?” while having goo pour from their face. Sounds delish. Needless to say, we did just that. He did a great job following directions to create the appetizer and drink I had planned. We made 5-spice chicken eggrolls and vodka dragons. The party was a big hit! After our part was done and the guests had moved onto the next house, I immediately changed into my pajamas, gathered the children, and crawled into bed. This was 9pm. I am a SERIOUS party girl.
I woke the next day feeling equally as lovely, but I was not to be detered. I had already planned to make donuts from some leftover brioche dough I had. I made fresh-squeezed orange juice for the kids and bloddy marys for me and my boyfriend (I like to call him that even though we have been married for over a decade now). I made some habanero, jalapeno and bacon vodka a week ahead for these. I was so excited to have them that no matter how bad I felt, I was having one. I probably shouldn’t have though, as it took me nearly half a day to drink it and then I slept the other half. My original New Years Day fantasy involved drinking lots of bloody marys and watching bowl games. Oh well. Maybe next year.
Today I managed to make a beautiful creamcicle cupcake. These are yummy! I will share the recipe at a later date.
